elephy is an artist-run, Brussels-based production and distribution platform for film and media art founded by Rebecca Jane Arthur, Chloë Delanghe, Eva Giolo and Christina Stuhlberger in 2018. Many of our projects are produced with analogue film, and most of us started our journey with the medium at LABO BXL, learning how to use a 16 mm camera through their workshops, advice, and expertise. Since then, we continue to learn and seek knowledge from LABO BXL with our experiments, trials and triumphs in analogue film. LABO BXL fulfil an informative, educational need as well as an artistic one. The artists running the lab are unfailingly helpful and generous with their skills, and we throughly believe that their work should be valued and supported. To imagine a stable, secure location for the lab with the vision of providing support and equipment to artists when working with the analogue medium is the minimum we would hope for. We would hope that LABO BXL’s time, knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication to the medium will also be fairly compensated, rather than relying on their labour of love. Without hesitation, we fully back them in their endeavours and wish that they receive the funding and the infrastructure necessary to continue carrying out their unique and irreplaceable role in our arts-film environment. Met dit schrijven willen wij graag jullie aanvraagdossier voor werkingsmiddelen ondersteunen. Reeds vele jaren volgen wij met grote interesse jullie projecten en wij zijn overtuigd van uw grote waarde binnen de audiovisuele sector. Zoals jullie weten is ook Courtisane een vurig verdediger van de analoge media 16mm en 35mm. Jaarlijks presenteren wij tientallen nieuwe of historische werken op deze formaten. Helaas verdwijnt bij velen de kennis over onderhoud, productie en presentatie van celluloid film en jullie ruimte voor onderzoek, experiment en creatie bewijst reeds sinds de opstart hoe cruciaal het bewaren en overleveren van deze specifieke kennis is voor onze en de komende generaties van kunstenaars, festivals en filmmakers, kunstencentra, kunstgalerijen, …
LABO BXL is onmisbaar voor iedereen die wil leren over analoge film. Er is geen enkele kunstschool die zoiets nog echt aanleert. Hopelijk vindt LABO BXL een werkplek die hen in staat stelt de werking verder open te stellen.
Mijn ervaring in een workshop bij LABO Bxl heeft me weer sterker verbonden met de kracht van film. Voor een filmmaker betekent dat veel. In de hoop dat ze hun werk met velen mogen blijven delen!
Labo BxL is absoluut een onmisbare plek in het landschap. Bijna tien jaar geleden al vertoonden we als experimentele cinema een eerste programma "OFFoff-ON: Labo BxL" en vorig jaar nog "Bits and Pieces" met de resultaten van een workshop. Elk seizoen verwijzen we mensen door naar Labo BxL voor faciliteiten en knowhow die wij niet kunnen bieden. We delen steevast de oproepen voor de workshops waarbij de vraag steeds groter is dan het aanbod. We werken vaak met stagiairs, vrijwilligers, technici of makers die ervaring opdeden in Labo BxL. Kortom, het zou ware aderlating zijn voor het veld mocht deze organisatie geen nieuw onderkomen vinden!

LaboBXL is the most significant place of knowledge sharing and practicing 16mm film DIY development, alongside S8 and photography 35mm. LaboBXL has supported our practice numerous times over the years. Their collective if a group of dedicated, and most generous individuals. We are fortunate to have LaboBXL in brussels. We will defend its survival and work together for its prosper. Long live LaboBXL ! Long live DIY 16mm film development !

Nous collaborons régulièrement avec Labo BxL. Ce lieu vivant depuis plus de 20 ans permet la fabrication de film en pellicule que nous nous réjouissons de pouvoir projeter sur notre écran. Nous sommes attentifs à la singularité plastique de leur création liée au travail sur film argentique, support que l'on affectionne particulièrement au cinéma Nova et dont seuls quelques précieux organismes comme labo BxL garantissent la pérénité et la transmission.
Salutations à nos camarades de Labo BXL dont nous avons eu le plaisir de découvrir et même programmer des films magnifiques. Que ce déménagement vous ouvre la possibilité de créer encore, et pour longtemps, des films en argentiques avec tout l’espace et les moyens nécessaires.

LABO Bxl is a very important for the filmmakers in Ursula collective, and we hope to see it housed in a new space shortly. The space and know how of the artists that run it is of immeasurable worth and we hope it will continue for a long time, as we hope to continue processing and editing our work there.
